Three people charged after copper wire theft

North Bay OPP report three Mattawa residents are facing charges after a copper wire theft investigation in Bonfield.

Provincial police say officers were dispatched just before noon last Thursday to a 911 call reporting a theft in progress near the intersection of Greenwood Drive and Sunnyside Road in Bonfield.

They say an employee of a rail company reported seeing three people removing copper and carrying the material away.

During the search, which included the OPP Emergency Response Team and K-9 Unit, all three individuals were located and arrested.

The OPP says several lengths of cut copper wire were recovered with pliers, cutting tools and suspected methamphetamine seized.

Charges of theft and mischief were laid against all three people with two facing drug possession charges.

They were held for a bail hearing last Friday.
