City police marking Crime Prevention Week

Protecting Ontario Together.

That’s the theme for this Crime Prevention Week, being marked locally by the North Bay Police Service.

Officials say the week highlights how everyone can play an important role in preventing crime and building a safer community, adding it requires collaboration from police, government, community organizations, businesses, and residents.

“Through education, awareness, reporting, and community engagement, everyone can contribute to reducing victimization and strengthening community safety,” states a release.

Five priorities have been identified:
· Cyber Crimes: Assisting members of the public identify and proactively protect themselves against cyber threats that can cause significant financial and emotional harm.
· Retail Crime: Working with businesses and community partners to address theft and other retail-related crimes.
· Social Disorder: Addressing community safety concerns and promoting safer public spaces.
· Hate Crimes: Raising awareness, encouraging reporting, and supporting efforts to prevent hate-motivated offences.
· Intimate Partner Violence (IPV): Fostering awareness, promoting prevention, and supporting efforts to reduce violence and harm.

Officials say reporting crime and sharing information with police can help identify patterns, inform investigations, and address emerging community safety concerns.
