The North Bay Police Service is reminding everyone of safety tips to keep Halloween safe on Saturday.
Safety advice for trick-or-treaters and parents:
· Buddy up. Young children should be accompanied by a parent or guardian, while older kids should map out a route in advance and agree on a curfew with their parents.
· Bright costumes, reflective tape, and glow sticks all help drivers spot trick-or-treaters in the dark.
· See and be seen. Avoid masks or eyewear that restrict vision, cross at crosswalks, and look both ways before stepping into the street.
· Visit well-lit homes with porch lights on, and never accept invitations into a stranger’s home or vehicle.
· Parents should check all treats before kids dig in, toss anything that’s unwrapped, damaged, or homemade by someone you don’t know.
For drivers, police say slow down, stay alert and anticipate the unexpected.
They also say distracted, aggressive, and impaired driving pose additional risks.
Meantime, trick-or-treaters can stop by police headquarters on Princess Street after 5 pm on Saturday for treats, while supplies last, and to say hello to K9 Moka, the Trauma Support Dog with Victim Services of Nipissing District.
