North Bay Police file charges after ODSP fraud investigation

Two people are facing charges following a city police investigation into alleged fraudulent Ontario Disability Support Program payments.

The North Bay Police Service says in 2024, ODSP launched an internal investigation into payments made between 2019 and 2024, totalling about $142,000.

It’s alleged both accused knowingly failed to disclose information to ODSP regarding marital status, income, cohabitation and assets. The matter was referred to city police, who then opened a criminal fraud investigation.

The two were arrested in late Sept. without incident and charged with fraud over $5,000.

“Allegations involving the misuse of public funds are very serious,” said Insp. Scott McFarlane. “Financial fraud investigations can take time and require a careful review of records. Our investigators followed the evidence and worked to ensure this matter was fully investigated.”

The accused were released on undertakings and scheduled to appear in court at a future date.
