North Bay Battalion prospect and Powassan Voodoos goalie Owen Loftus has been named to Team Canada Red for the U17 World Challenge.
The tournament takes place the first week of November in Oakville.
Loftus took part in the team’s development camp this summer, telling the Battalion Marching Orders a few weeks ago it was a really good experience.
With many Canadians dreaming of putting on the Maple Leaf and representing their country, he said it’s a dream of his as well.
“100%. It’ll be a really great honour if I’m able to get the opportunity,” he said during the podcast, which was recorded before the rosters were announced.
Loftus was the Battalion’s first-round pick, 11th overall, in the 2026 Priority Selection.
After four games with the OHL club, where he picked up two wins, he was assigned to the Troops’ NOJHL affiliate in Powassan last week.
Loftus posted a .923 save percentage and picked up third star honours in his first game with the Voodoos, a 6-2 win over Espanola.
Along with two Canadian teams (Red and White) at the Nov. 1-7 tournament, U17 teams from Czechia, Finland, Sweden and the United States will also be competing.
