Civilian city police member charged with identity theft

North Bay Police report a 39-year-old civilian member of the police service has been charged with identity fraud and identity theft.

They say in early August Chief Daryl Longworth requested the Ontario Provincial Police investigate allegations of off-duty criminal misconduct.

An arrest was made last Wednesday with police saying the member removed from active duty and suspended pending the outcome of an employment investigation.

“It is deeply disappointing to have to share this news with our community,” says Chief Longworth. “Trust is built through our actions, and so it is very important in moments like this that we are open and transparent. I remain fully committed to taking appropriate steps to address any allegations of member misconduct on or off-duty and ensuring that anyone who compromises the trust placed in our service is held accountable.”

West Parry Sound OPP say the accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay in January.
