The cases of six missing patients from the former North Bay Psychiatric Hospital will be featured online and on the small screen this weekend.

An episode of APTN Investigates was filmed locally, shining a light on the missing patients’ cases.

“Every single family is still invested in finding out what happened to their loved one,” says Ellen White, Owner and Senior Investigator of Whereabouts Unknown. “That grief, longing and wanting to know what happened and where their loved one might be absolutely never goes away no matter how many years have passed.”

The episode includes members of the Whereabouts Unknown team of Private Investigators who have worked on the six cases since 2021.

White says there’s a particular focus on Dawn Carisse, an Indigenous woman, who vanished from the hospital in 2001.

A city police missing person’s profile says she was living with short-term memory loss, had escaped nine previous times, since 1997.

Officials say it’s possible she was planning to go see her children.

All efforts to locate her were unsuccessful.

“Tips are coming in to us more than 20 years, more than 40 years after some of these disappearances, and they are all relevant and are all being investigated,” says White. “We hope folks catch it, even if they’re just focused on Dawn Carisse, that anybody who has information on any of the cases will make a call.”

Whereabouts Unknown can be reached at 289-975-0909 or they can contact the North Bay Police Service at 705-497-5555 (and select option 5 to speak to a police officer).

Saturday’s episode airs at 6:30 pm and will also be available online.

The Whereabouts team is also on Facebook and their podcasts are on Spotify.

The old Highway 11 North psychiatric hospital was demolished in 2013.
