Powassan receives $45,000 for accessibility improvements

Accessibility improvements are being made in Powassan.

Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing announced just over $45,000 for the municipality to reduce barriers to recreation for seniors, people with disabilities, and isolated residents.

Projects include the installation of Accessibility Act compliant steps at the public pool, rollout pathways to provide access to the park, pool, and lake, and accessible picnic tables for parks.

“This project will enhance Powassan’s outdoor public spaces, making them more accessible and ensuring that everyone in the community can live a more active, healthy, safe, and socially connected life,” says Fedeli.

The money comes from the Enhanced Access to Spaces for Everyone (EASE) Grant.

“The Municipality would like the thank the province for this funding that helps make the municipality more accessible for those with mobility issues,” says Peter McIsaac, Mayor of the Municipality of Powassan. “The stairs for the pool, mats for the parks and accessible picnic tables provide new outdoor recreational opportunities and will make outdoor spaces more inclusive for every member of our community.”

Across Ontario, over $2 million is funding improvements to accessibility for seniors and people with disabilities.
