West Ferris student wins bronze again at Canada-Wide Science Fair

A West Ferris Secondary student is a Canada-Wide Science Fair medalist for the second time.

Jiya Savsani won senior bronze at last week’s event in Edmonton, where she competed against 400 fellow students. She also won national bronze in 2024.

School officials say Savsani is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) student whose project on optimizing ways to harness renewable energy sources on highways earned high praise.

In April, her project ‘Highway Harvest 2.0: Optimizing Wind Unit Placement on Highways for Efficient Power Production’ won first place in senior engineering and computer science at the Renfrew Country Regional Fair.

She also won the Ontario Power Generation – Best Energy Project award and the Professional Engineering award at the regional event.

Also at the Renfrew Fair, St. Joseph-Scollard Hall’s William Breton and Natalia Boss won first place in the senior Health Sciences division for their project ‘Cancer-Curing Cocktail: Engineering Mini-Binders via Deep Learning to Disrupt Multi-Level Oncogenic Signaling’.
