No change to Northern and White Woods until at least Sept. 2028

The planned transition of Northern Secondary School to a kindergarten to grade 12 school will now take place at least a year later than earlier targeted.

In an update from the Near North District School Board, officials say the K-12 school will open no earlier than the 2028-29 school year.

“Until then, the current school configurations will remain in place,” states a letter to parents. “White Woods Public School will continue to serve students in kindergarten to grade 6, and Northern Secondary School will continue to serve students in grades 7 to 12.”

Initial plans were announced by the board in May.

They say the long-term plan includes White Woods Public School eventually being sold to Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario.
