The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) and family, friends and colleagues of Registered Nurse Brittney Peters are honouring her memory.
They’ve created a new nursing Excellence in Advocacy award in her name.
Officials say Peters was a well-respected nurse in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) at NBRHC for many years and was known for her strong advocacy for both patients and colleagues.
She passed away in May 2025 after a two-year battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
The inaugural Brittney Peters Excellence in Advocacy Award has been presented to Tiffanie Desjardins, a Registered Nurse in the CCU.
Described as the ‘embodiment of what the award represents, officials say Desjardins is highly respected by her peers for her clinical expertise, critical thinking, depth of knowledge, and is widely regarded as one of the most skilled nurses within the organization.
They add her impact extends beyond individual patient care; she elevates the standard of practice for those around her.
Along with the award, recipients receive a bursary for professional development and a buffalo pin.
Officials say the buffalo is a majestic, powerful and resilient animal and was chosen for its strategic instincts when encountering a storm.
In early 2027, Peters’ family, friends and colleagues will be hosting a fundraiser to fund the award and to seed an endowment fund.
