Provincial funding for community spaces and area events

More than $380,000 in provincial money is helping improve community spaces and fund a few events in Nipissing.

MPP Vic Fedeli announced the funding last Friday from the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Capital Grant stream and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Community Events Program.

“Our local non-profit organizations and municipalities are delivering programming that helps people stay active, learn new skills and connect with their communities. Today’s investments through the OTF and the NOHFC provide economic growth and ensure residents continue to benefit from the services and events that make Nipissing a great place to live, work and raise a family,” says Fedeli. “Our government will continue to protect Ontario by helping Northern communities increase local tourism by attracting visitors from near and far who want to enjoy all that Nipissing has to offer.”

More than $195,000 is going to East Ferris to design and build two accessible playgrounds, Les Compagnons receives $114,000 to replace equipment and mascot costumes, and Discovery Routes receives $26,000 to buy grooming equipment and improve trail signage.

Three events; this past June’s St. Jean Day, the Bay Block Party later this month, and the Bay Beats Music Festival next month, each receive $15,000.
