Three long-term care homes in Nipissing are receiving provincial funding to support residents with complex needs.
Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing, announced $440,000 from the Local Priorities Fund, supporting initiatives that connect people with the right care, reducing unnecessary emergency department visits and hospital stays.
“Today’s investment is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario by ensuring that long-term care residents in Nipissing receive the quality of life and care they need and deserve,” says Fedeli. “The Local Priorities Fund invests in staffing, equipment, and services to support people’s transitions from hospitals to long-term care homes, meet the needs of long-term care residents with complex conditions, and prevent unnecessary hospitalizations.”
The local funding includes:
· $252,086 Eastholme for the Aged in Powassan
· $172,457 Algonquin Nursing Home in Mattawa
· $15,000 Cassellholme in North Bay
“Eastholme was grateful to receive funding under the Local Priorities Fund to fund several initiatives. $71,364 was received to cover wages for a temporary full-time Behavioral Supports Ontario (BSO) position,” says Odelia Callery, Administrator for Eastholme. “The BSO team is available to all residents in the home (with a focus on those requiring more care due to personal expressions). The additional funding of $180,722 was used to train staff and purchase equipment to support residents with specialized care needs. The equipment included bariatric beds and vital signs machines. The training included several dementia friendly programs that support residents with complex care needs. This funding goes a long way to improving the lives of people living in long-term care.”
