Voodoos ink Tye Lindeman

North Bay native Tye Lindeman has been signed by the Powassan Voodoos.

The defenceman was selected in the 13th round of the 2016 OHL Priority Selection by the North Bay Battalion.

Lindeman played his midget year with the North Bay Midget AAA Trappers. The Voodoos are the junior A affiliate for the Battalion and they are excited to announce this signing. Lindeman had seven points in 33 games with the AAA Trappers last season.

He went on to show a strong work ethic in the OHL Cup with Team NOHA.

Lindeman describes himself as an elite shut down defenceman who is good in his own zone. He adds he can rush the puck if the play calls for it.

He says he was hoping to get drafted by the Battalion. Lindeman says he’s looking forward to playing in his hometown with Powassan and one day he hopes with the Battalion.

In a release Head Coach Scott Wray says it’s great to have another local player on the team. This is the second straight season a Battalion draft pick from North Bay will play for the Voodoos.

Last season defenceman Eric Allair was in the same role and Wray says they hope Allair will be moving up to the big club this year. He says Allair should be taking that step this season, which means the Voodoos are doing their job. Allair had 17 assists in his rookie season with the Voodoos. He will be trying to break camp with the North Bay Battalion when they begin training camp on September 1st.

Wray says they are supposed to be developing players for the next level. He adds it’s a bonus that some of their players are local and want to stay in or near their hometown for their junior hockey career.

The announcement was made at the second annual Voodoos Golf Tournament at Highview Golf Course on Tuesday night.
