North Bay Battalion open season a week from today

The pre-season is in the rear view mirror, and in a week’s time the games will get going for real for the North Bay Battalion. Before opening night, six Battalion players are heading to NHL camps this week.

2016 3rd round NHL draft pick Cam Dineen is off to Arizona’s camp. 6th round pick Mark Shoemaker heads to the bay area for San Jose’s camp. And 7th round pick Brett McKenzie is heading across the country to attend Vancouver Canucks camp. Riley Bruce will head to Calgary, Brent Moran to Chicago and Justin Brazeau will take a quick six hour drive down to Detroit.

The Troops continue to practice ahead of the regular season opener at Memorial Gardens next Friday against the Niagara Ice Dogs. They finished the pre-season 2-2, splitting home and home against Owen Sound and Sudbury. The Battalion are coming off a 35-23-6-4 record, good enough for third overall in the Eastern Conference.
