Good weekend for Nipissing Lakers soccer teams

The Nipissing Lakers women’s soccer team got a much needed victory against the Trent Excalibur yesterday.

The Lakers have played well all season, but hadn’t been rewarded for their efforts as much as they would have liked to this point in the season. The Lakers built up a 3-0 lead and held on for a 3-1 victory at the Omischl Sports Complex.

The Lakers finished the weekend with a split and now head to our Nation’s Capital to face Carleton and Ottawa next weekend. Ottawa currently sits first and undefeated at 7-0-0, while Carleton is third in the OUA East Division with a 4-2-1 record. Nipissing faces off against Ottawa at 1:00pm on Saturday, before finishing the weekend battling Carleton at noon on Sunday.

And in men’s soccer action, a back and forth, physical game, saw the Lakers and Trent Excalibur play to a 2-2 draw yesterday. The draw snapped the Lakers two game losing streak, as they are now 1-1-2 in their past four. Overall, the Lakers sit at 1-5-1 on the season.

Nipissing has just the one game on the schedule next weekend, heading to Ottawa to face the Carleton Ravens in an important game. Despite a poor start to the season, the Lakers are just three points out of the final playoff spot. Game time is at 2:15pm Sunday at Keith Harris Stadium.
