Big week for Brett McKenzie capped off with a shootout winning goal over Oshawa

Brett McKenzie, fresh off being named to Team OHL, scored the shootout winning goal to give the North Bay Battalion a 5-4 victory over Oshawa last night.

The Battalion were down 4-3 with less than 2 minutes to go in the 3rd period when Adam Thilander tied the game. It was Thilander’s third goal of the season, all coming in the last four games. OT solved nothing, so it was off to a shootout. Each team converted on their first attempts. Steve Harland hit the post and Andy Baker missed for the Troops before Brett McKenzie scored the winner.

Battalion Head Coach Stan Butler says his guys don’t quit, they just keep battling. Butler says Oshawa is a hard-working team, and his guys had to work pretty hard to stay up with them. After a slow start, the Troops have won three of four games and now sit at 7-6 on the season. The Battalion hit the road for a pair of games this weekend, when they visit the Windsor Spitfires on Saturday, and the Sarnia Sting on Sunday.
