Military Appreciation Night this Friday for the Nipissing Men’s hockey team

The Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team will take on the Royal Military College on Military Appreciation Night this Friday. The annual game against RMC will see the Lakers don camouflage uniforms that will be auctioned off through a silent auction post-game. The proceeds will go toward supporting the Military Family Resource Center.

Lakers Head Coach, Mike McParland, says the ability to support the men and women of the armed forces, and raise some money for the MFRC is great. He also stressed how important this game is to the team on the ice. The Lakers and RMC will play twice this season; Friday and on January 13th in Kingston. Nipissing and RMC are separated by just one point right now, and sit behind Ottawa for the final playoff spot in the East.

Colonel Henrik Smith from 22 Wing says when members get posted in new places, they are taken care of but their families are left to figure it out. He says events like these go along way for those families. Smith says the MFRC is there to be a helping hand with things like schools, finding a doctor, and figuring out where in the city to go for appointments.

Puck drop is set for 7:15pm at Memorial Gardens Friday night.
