Third period woes dog the North Bay Battalion during tough weekend

A three goal first period for the North Bay Battalion wasn’t enough, as the Saginaw Spirit scored four straight goals to get a big 6-3 victory. The Troops had a 3-2 lead after the 1st period, but from there it was all Saginaw. Three of the four goals scored were in the third period. It was the second straight game that saw the third period sink the Battalion. On Saturday, the Peterborough Petes scored five straight goals in the third period to stun the Troops 5-3.

Max Kislinger, Zach Poirier and Brett McKenzie had the Battalion goals, and Brent Moran made 21 saves in the loss. Head Coach Stan Butler says they’re fortunate the teams ahead of them also lost. But says they’re swimming in the lake, but he’s not sure if they’re going to get to shore. The Troops sit 3rd overall in the Central division, tied with Niagara at 39 points but have the tie-breaker by benefit of a game in hand.

The Battalion now have a week full of practise ahead of their next game on Friday in Kitchener.
