North Bay native Mike Yeo named head coach of the St. Louis Blues

North Bay native Mike Yeo has been named head coach of the St. Louis Blues today after the team canned Ken Hitchcock. Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong made the announcement a little while ago. Yeo who was hired last summer as Associate Coach, with the plan being he would take over after this season ended. But the Blues have struggled to keep the puck out of their net, despite being in a playoff position at the moment.

The 43-year-old Yeo led Minnesota to a 173-132-44 record during his tenure as head coach, which included three consecutive postseason appearances. Before his time in Minnesota, Yeo spent one season as the head coach of the American Hockey League’s Houston Aeros. Yeo also has a Stanley Cup on his resume that he won as an assistant coach on the 2009 Pittsburgh Penguins.
