Former Lakers soccer captain turning pro in New Zealand

Former Nipissing Lakers men’s soccer team captain, Jean-Michel Paulin, has signed on to play pro soccer in New Zealand. Paulin graduated Nipissing in 2015 from the BPHE program and is currently continuing his education, but before he completes his teaching degree, Paulin will suit up for the Napier City Rovers. Paulin who led the Lakers in scoring in his final season, is thrilled with the opportunity and can’t wait to get started with the Rovers.

The Callander native says he’s looking forward to helping them become league and Chatham Cup champions. In 2015, Paulin led the team in goals, points, shots and game-winning goals as he earned Nipissing Athlete of the Year honours. Paulin’s coach with the Lakers, Carlo DeVuono is proud to see a former player move on to the next level and experience the pro game. DeVuono says Paulin was someone who stepped up when their team needed it.

The Napier City Rovers are part of a 10-team league that compete in the Central Premier League in New Zealand.
