Banner season for the Powassan Voodoos capped off by dominating NOJHL awards

The Powassan Voodoos were well represented as the NOJHL announced its regular season award winners and first and second all-star teams. Goaltender Nate McDonald captured the Carlo Cattarello Trophy as NOJHL MVP, the Wayne Chase Memorial Award for best goals-against average, and was named the First Team All-Star goalie. McDonald also shared the NOJHL Team Goaltending award for fewest goals against with teammate Andrew Suriano.

McDonald led all NOJHL goalies in GAA and wins. He was also third in save percentage and finished tied for second in shutouts with three while playing the fourth-most minutes in the league. McDonald was also a member of Team NOJHL at the Eastern Canada Cup Challenge and has committed to attend Niagara University and play NCAA D-I hockey on scholarship for the Purple Eagles in the fall.

Voodoos forward Parker Bowman was awarded the Mitch Tetreault Memorial Trophy as top defensive forward.  The 17-year-old, from Bracebridge, Ontario, also registered 30 points in 45 games as a rookie. The Voodoos as a team won the James Aspin Trophy as regular season champions, and the Gary Hall Memorial Award for being the NOJHL Eastern Conference champs. The NOJHL First All-Star Team was full of Voodoos, with centre Andy Baker who led the NOJHL in goal scoring with 45 goals, and right wing Gary Mantz, who recorded 69 points in 46 games this season joining McDonald.

For the second year in a row, Voodoos GM Chris Dawson was named the First All-Star team general manager. Voodoos head coach Scott Wray was named to the Second All-Star team for the second year as well. The Voodoos now have some time to enjoy their regular season awards, as they will face the winner of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners/Iroquois Falls Eskis first round series.
