The North Bay & District Trappers Hockey Association has announced that Head Coach Guy Blanchard will be behind the bench for the Midget AAA Trappers for the 2017-18 season. Blanchard took over the team last fall and led them to a bronze medal at the Central Regional Major Midget AAA Championships recently held in Sudbury.
Blanchard led the Trappers to an impressive 30-5-0-0-1 record during the Great North Midget League regular season schedule, good enough for first place overall. The Trappers then went all the way to the GNML finals, where they were beaten three games to two by the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves.
Blanchard says he decided to come back for one more year because when they started this program with the midgets this past year, it was fairly successful. He says he wanted to give it a two year shot. Blanchard added this is basically the second year of his commitment, and he hopes to finish off the program they put forward, which will be a benefit for all the players in North Bay. Spring tryouts for the Trappers midget team, which will be for players born in 2000, 2001, and 2002 will take place later this month.
