Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team adds North Bay native Brett Hargrave

The Nipissing Lakers have announced the signing of North Bay native and recent Battalion graduate Brett Hargrave. Hargrave scored 15 goals, a career high during his four-year OHL career, but added only 3 assists for 18 points this past season with the Battalion.

Head Coach Mike McParland says he’s excited to add a quality OHL graduate to the roster and is looking forward to seeing what Hargrave can do in the lineup. McParland says Hargrave adds some size and scoring which are two areas they were lacking in last season. Hargrave was originally a first round pick, 13th overall, by the Sarnia Sting in 2012. The 6-foot-4, 212-pound right winger played his final two seasons in the OHL with the North Bay Battalion, where he scored 25 goals and added 15 assists in 120 games. Overall, during his OHL career he had 36 goals and 29 assists, good for 65 points in 242 games.

Hargrave says he’s excited about the next chapter in his hockey career and is looking forward to suiting up with the Lakers in the fall. He says it’s a great feeling to be able to play more hockey, especially in his hometown. Battalion Head Coach Stan Butler says they’re happy to have first player from the Battalion go to Nipissing because they have a good partnership with the school and the team.

Hargrave is following the path of fellow local products Danny Desrochers and Dylan Staples in joining the Lakers following OHL careers.
