Nipissing Lakers Women’s Basketball team names Katie Hamilton new Head Coach

The Nipissing Lakers Women’s Basketball team has announced its new head coach will be Katie Hamilton. Hamilton was most recently with the Windsor Lancers of the OUA as an assistant coach, as well as Team Ontario at the U17 level. Previously, she was the head coach of the PEI Women’s Canada Games program, assistant coach of Holland College women’s basketball program, executive/technical director of Basketball PEI and head coach of Sault College women’s basketball program. In 2012, Hamilton was named Ontario Basketball’s Elite Female Coach of the Year, and The Canadian Sport for Life Ambassador of the Year.

Lakers athletic director Vito Castiglione is excited to see Hamilton get started. Castiglione says Hamilton brings a wealth of leadership experience in high level basketball programs. He says they are looking forward to Hamilton making her imprint on the Lakers basketball program.

Hamilton says she’s thrilled with the opportunity ahead and is looking forward to getting started. She says she’s been very impressed with Nipissing University, the commitment to the student experience and the dedication to their student-athletes. Hamilton begins her duties as head coach immediately in preparation for the 2017-18 Ontario University Athletics season, which begins with pre-season play in September and regular season action in October.
