Nipissing Lakers Zosia Davis to represent U SPORTS at the Hockey Canada Summer Showcase

Nipissing Lakers veteran defenceman Zosia Davis has been selected to represent U SPORTS at the Hockey Canada Summer Showcase being held in Calgary from August 5th to the 13th. This comes a year after forward Sam Strassburger attended a selection camp, made up of Canadian Interuniversity Sport players who were aiming to represent Canada at the 2017 Winter Universiade in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The CIS select team took on Team Sweden, as well as Canada’s National Women’s Development team.

Davis says it’s an honour to be part of the USports team and this event. Davis thanked the Lakers program for helping her grow as a person and a player. She says Lakers head coach Darren Turcotte has been great in helping with her development and her teammates have allowed her to succeed at the USports level.

Davis just finished her third season with the Lakers, and has five goals and 24 assists to go along with 59 penalty minutes in 69 career games with Nipissing. The native of Cobden, ON, Davis posted three assists in six playoff games last year, helping the Lakers reach the OUA Finals for the first time in the program’s history. Davis joins five other defenders, two goalies and 13 forwards, all made up of USports athletes but Davis is one of five OUA athletes named to the roster.

Lakers head coach Darren Turcotte says he’s proud of Davis, and wishes her the best in Calgary. Turcotte says Davis is a great person, and athlete and has really developed and improved during her time with our program. He says she earned this invite thanks to her strong play with the Lakers, and they’re excited to see her continue to make strides at the Hockey Canada Summer Showcase and with their program.
