Rules of the road important for cyclists too

North Bay Police Service has released what they say is the cause of Friday’s collision that closed a downtown intersection for two hours.

Police say a cyclist collided with a transit bus at the corner of Wyld Street and McIntyre Street East last Friday and was taken to the North Bay Regional Health Centre to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The bus was making a left turn onto McIntyre from Wyld. A section of the road at that intersection has been painted with yellow lines as large vehicles (such as transit buses) could not safely make the tight turn from McIntyre Street East’s left lane onto Wyld Street. McIntyre is a one-way street.

Police say the investigation continues, but it is believed the cyclist passed several cars on Wyld Street while travelling along the centre line and collided with the bus as the transit operator made his turn from Wyld to McIntyre East.
