Mathew Koprash heads a committee that has secured a high-level bass fishing tournament for Lake Nipissing.
The 2018 Ontario Bass Nation Provincial Qualifier will be put on by Koprash’s North Bay Bassmasters group, in conjunction with the City of North Bay, North Bay Sports Tourism, North Bay Chamber of Commerce, and Tourism North Bay.
The event will launch from the municipal marina and will be held August 24-26, 2018.
Koprash says the economic impact will extend beyond those three days. He says 200 competitors, plus family members and friends will descend on North Bay up to one week early to scout fishing locations.
He says the high-level competitors take the competitions seriously, as spots on the provincial team that will compete at an international event in South Carolina will be at stake. “It’s just like practising for the Stanley Cup,” for us adds Koprash.
