Cab fares on the rise

The price of taking a taxi is going up in North Bay.

Under the increases approved by the Police Services Board, Tuesday, taxis will soon cost $2.45 per kilometre, an increase of 41 cents and a jump of 20 per cent over the current rolling and wait rate of $2.04 per kilometre.

The price of simply getting in the cab, or the drop rate, will go up 1.9 per cent, from $4.60 to $4.70.

Proponents within the taxi industry held a public forum last month to discuss challenges that owners and operators have been facing, especially in the face of the increase in the minimum wage.
