Baseball organizations pitching in to rebuild Veterans Sports Complex

Councillor Derek Shogren says he has been in touch with local baseball organizations and says they are thrilled with the overhaul that will finally take place at Veterans Sports Complex.

North Bay City Council approved the award of a contract in the amount of $509,410 (plus HST) to TDI International AG Inc. for the Veterans Sports Complex Design and Reconstruction at Tuesday’s regular meeting.

Shogren says that since the fields were installed at the location near the Lakeshore overpass in the 1970s, a makeover was overdue.

He adds the ability of the youth and adult baseball leagues to contribute to the project, especially for the highly-desired synthetic infield, makes for a lasting partnership with the City.

A total contribution of $75,000 will be made by the leagues.

Sports tourism and the ability to host bigger tournaments will be a major offshoot of the renovations, as will the ability of players to be able to play a longer season once the new synthetic infield is installed at Veterans Field.

The half-million dollar project will get underway soon as the field is already booked for August.
