Police stop driver trying to evade RIDE check

Charges have been laid against a 29-year-old Timmins, Ontario man after an encounter near a spot check.

Last Saturday evening, just before midnight, officers from the North Bay Detachment of the OPP were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot check on Highway 17 in North Bay.

Officers stopped a vehicle that looked as if it was attempting to evade the RIDE program. While speaking with the driver, officers detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.

The driver was arrested at the scene for driving with over 80mg of alcohol in his blood and for possession of suspected drugs. He was transported to the North Bay OPP Detachment for breath tests. The tests revealed that he had over the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.
