First the branch closes, now the ATMs

Downtown Royal Bank customers who have already seen service scaled back from full branch to ATMs-only now face another hurdle.

The ATMs located on the Main Street West side of the former bank branch are being removed today. Electricians are on site today to disconnect the customer care kiosks.

A sign affixed to the window of one of the front doors of the former branch reads: “ATM is not available. We want to let you know that this ATM will not be available from Friday, April 30, 2018.” The day should read “Monday,” as the workers inside confirmed that the machines would no longer be accessible to customers. The sign directs customers to the Stockdale Road Royal Bank location.

The downtown Royal Bank closed its doors in 2017, initially leaving the ATMs for customers to use in the place of doing banking with a teller. Less than two weeks ago, we told you about West Ferris losing its last bank branch when it was revealed that the Nipissing Plaza Scotiabank would consolidate with the Northgate Shopping Centre branch.

A conversation with DIA Executive Director Jeff Serran also confirmed the loss of the ATMs at the former Royal Bank branch. Serran says that the wheels are in motion to relocate those bank machines somewhere in the downtown core. He could not elaborate on where they might be relocated, nor which business will be moving into the old bank branch.
