Mock shooter exercise tests emergency preparedness at 22 Wing

It was a test to sharpen skills and prepare 22 Wing in the event of a real attack.

The base’s military police carried out a mock exercise involving a shooter on the base who was a threat to personnel, infrastructure and operations at 22 Wing.

The MP’s carried out the simulation in conjunction with the city police and the OPP.

Auxiliary members and ambulance personnel were also included.

In addition to testing the base’s preparedness, the exercise dealt with how well the military can work with non-military police forces.

The need for the exercise is the result of a changing world where attacks have occurred at schools, other public places and also military bases.

Base commander Colonel Mark Roberts says it’s doing this kind of exercise that helps ensure the ongoing safety of the base and residents of the city.

North Bay Police Chief Shawn Devine and OPP Staff Sergeant Chris Summersby also say the mock shooter incident kept personnel sharp and better prepared in case of a real threat.
