New welcome signs going up in East Ferris

Work begins soon to erect two welcome signs in East Ferris.

The signs identify the villages of Corbeil and Astorville and Mayor Bill Vrebosch says they’ll be set up at the entrances and exits of each community.

Vrebosch says the need for the signs became necessary over the years as the municipality has seen its population shoot up from 2,000 people to more than 5,000 residents.

The signs were unveiled at the municipality’s trade show last month and Vrebosch says the response has been positive.

He also says people welcomed the idea.

“Some people at the trade show said I never knew where East Ferris was except that it was somewhere south of North Bay,” Vrebosch said.

The signs will be visible as people come off Highway 11 at Nosbonsing Road, and Highways 17 and 94 as Corbeil is entered.

However, the welcome signs aren’t the only sign project for East Ferris this summer.

Vrebosch says the municipality is getting a total replacement of its street signs.

“The ones we have now are 20 years old,” he said.

“And although we are not officially bilingual, the new street signs will be in both English and French.   We will also have business markers going up.”

Vrebosch says the entire signs project, which cost $45,000 and received some funding from the federal and provincial governments, should wrap up some time in the fall.
