The OPP has issued warnings this spring about moose and other wildlife on Highway 17 to the east and west of North Bay and did so again today, following a busy night for interactions with wildlife on area highways.
Police say between 9:00pm last night and 2:00am this morning, officers from the North Bay Detachment of the OPP responded to five motor vehicle collisions involving moose and deer, including the above fatal collision. These collisions were not concentrated in one area. Five moose were involved and one deer.
Media Coordinator for the OPP NER Sergeant Carlo Berardi expands on this data in a video below, saying that 13 motor vehicle collisions involving moose and deer have been reported over the last 24 hours.
Acting Staff Sergeant Terry Forshew, Detachment Commander of the North Bay OPP, would like to remind motorists to use caution, especially at dawn and dusk when driving. He says animals are very active at this time of the year.
