Metros in North Bay and Sturgeon Falls now sell regionally-grown frozen berries

The Metro grocery stores in Sturgeon Falls and North Bay now carry a taste of Warren in them.

The 18 Metros from Thunder Bay to Barrie have started carrying frozen berries from a farm in Warren.

The berries are from Boreal Berry Farm and Winery and owner Greg Melien says they can be used in smoothies, jams, jellies and pies.

He’s provided the Metros with four varieties of berries.

Melien and his wife Mira got into farming in 2011 and bought farmland in Warren after he was discharged from the military.

Melien says as more equipment arrives to manufacture more berries and he hires more people, the goal is to sell the berries nationwide.

The frozen berries are sold in 400 gram bags.
