Keeping up film industry momentum means promoting North Bay

The City of North Bay says the numbers don’t lie when it comes to the economic impact of the film industry.

The City has added it all up and over the past two years, there has been exponential growth both financially and in the duration of the stays within the City of North Bay and area by film productions. From 2016 to 2017, filming days doubled from 127 to 268, with direct spending rising to $22.7 million in 2017 from $8.9 million in 2016.

In 2017, North Bay and area welcomed 11 film and television productions to the area and the momentum has continued this year with 11 productions already completed.

Mayor Al McDonald says, “We are absolutely thrilled with the excitement and the vibrancy that has been created in the city as result of this industry.”

Producers say they are attracted to the City of North Bay due to no film permit fees, low traffic and commute times, streamlined permit and approval process and Northern Ontario specific financial incentives.

In order to showcase the city’s natural assets and capabilities, the Economic Development Department worked with various productions and Patrick Gilbert Productions to complete a new promotional video. The video, “Where Will You Film Your Next Project?” will be shared with Producers and Filmmakers from around the world during the Toronto International Film Festival as well as during Cinefest Sudbury International Film Festival. The video can also be seen by visiting www.investinnorthbay.ca or on Facebook.
