This seems like a typical traffic stop on an area highway but new laws and technology began a sequence of events leading to additional charges for this driver.
A closer look shows the driver was pulled over by a North Bay OPP officer utilizing a police vehicle with the Automatic Licence Plate Recognition technology. As a result of the reading for a suspended driver, the 36-year-old North Bay man was pulled over on Highway 17 in East Ferris Township last Sunday, just before 9:00am.
After speaking to the driver, the officer requested a Mandatory Alcohol Screening breath sample. Roadside tests were conducted, and, consequently, the driver was arrested for impaired driving.
More tests were completed at the North Bay OPP Detachment, and, as a result of the police investigation the man was charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Alcohol
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration – 80 plus
- Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence
The accused was issued a 90-day Automatic Drivers Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
He was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on February 5, 2019.
It has been a rough couple of weeks for drivers charged with impaired.
