Three locals charged after police investigate robbery

Three men from the area have each been arrested and charged with various offences, including robbery with a firearm.

On December 21, 2018, shortly after 8:00pm, the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a robbery that occurred on Beckanon Road in Henvey Inlet First Nation, Ontario.

Police say during the course of the investigation a number of warrants were executed and as a result, the following charges have been laid:

  • A 28-year-old male from North Bay is charged with robbery using firearm (two counts) and disguise with intent.
  • An 18-year-old male from Strong Township is charged with robbery using firearm (two counts), and disguise with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of more than four cannabis plants (not budding or flowering).
  • A 19-year-old male from Trout Creek was charged with robbery using a firearm.

The accused were held in custody and were scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on December 31, 2018, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound.

This investigation included the assistance of members from the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit, OPP North East Regional Support Team, OPP Community Street Crimes Unit, West Parry Sound and Almaguin Highlands OPP Crime Units, West Parry Sound and Almaguin Highlands OPP Detachments and the North Bay Police Service. OPP Aviation Services and OPP Forensic Identification Services also assisted during the investigation.
