Charges stemming from assault with a weapon investigation

The North Bay Police Service says as a result of the investigation, it has been determined that a 41-year-old male assaulted a female person known to him and has been charged with the following offences:

  • Aggravated Assault (Domestic)
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl (purp)
  • Possession of Methamphetamine (2 counts)

The NBPS will not be releasing the identity of this accused person to protect the identity of the victim.

From the original police report, NBPS responded to an address on McIntyre Street East in North Bay after receiving a report of a man requiring medical assistance. NBPS Sgt Jody deHaas confirms there were two victims who suffered non-life threatening injuries caused by puncture wounds from the incident. One victim has been released from the hospital, according to deHaas, and the other remains in hospital in stable condition.

Police advised it was “a targeted attack and there is no threat to public safety,” and it is believed to have been an isolated incident.

The North Bay Forensic Identification Unit is assisted the Criminal Investigation Section, resulting in increased uniformed patrol presence in the downtown area of the city.

During the investigation, the North Bay Police Service had two scenes secured, one in the 400 block of Main Street East and the other in the 400 block of McIntyre Street East.

While investigating the assault with a weapon incident downtown, NBPS officers were also involved in an interaction with three individuals near the crime scenes. One of the subjects was injured during the arrest and NBPS has called the Ontario Special Investigations Unit.
