SIU called after injury during arrest by NBPS

“The investigation into the occurrence on August 20, 2019 is continuing, resulting in no media interviews until the investigation is completed.”

This from the North Bay Police Service, which reports while investigating the assault with a weapon incident downtown, NBPS officers were also involved in an interaction with three individuals near the crime scenes.

Police say at approximately 5:00pm yesterday, “two individuals were observed removing a ladder from a neighbouring residence of one of those secured residences. These two individuals then attended the rear of the residence and entered the residence via a second-floor window. These individuals were then seen leaving the residence and a foot chase with uniformed officers ensued.”

During the arrest of the original two, a third unrelated person became involved. This third, unrelated, person sustained an injury that caused the NBPS to contact the Special Investigations Unit (SIU). As a result, the Ontario SIU has invoked its mandate. Any information concerning with respect to their investigation will be subject to the SIU.

The two subjects who police say entered and exited the building by ladder have been charged with various offences, including break and enter, theft under $5,000, and obstruction of justice. One of the accused is also charged with trafficking in methamphetamine.
