After School program receives boost

North Bay and the YMCA stand to benefit from the Ontario government’s “After School Program.”

The province announced that the YMCA will receive $99,750, while the City will get $66,180 to help keep kids in Nipissing physically active, healthy and ready to learn. The government says this will help kids succeed later in life.

“Through Ontario’s After School Program, our government is pleased to help support local organizations to keep their children and youth physically active and engaged,” said Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli.

The government says the After School Program funds no-cost, fun, safe, supervised activities during the school year in high need neighbourhoods across Ontario.

“Kids need safe spaces to grow and thrive,” said Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries. “Participating in quality after-school activities helps kids improve their grades and boosts their self-esteem. Ontario is pleased to support local organizations to deliver this vital program to their communities.”

The province adds the program serves 21,000 children and youth from grades one to 12 over 400 sites through 117 organizations across Ontario.
