Mike O’Shea Field has a nice ‘ring’ to it

CFL great and North Bay native Mike O’Shea will be honoured in his hometown if, as expected, a motion at next week’s city council meeting passes.

O’Shea is a Canadian Football Hall of Fame member and five-time Grey Cup champion, including most recently as head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers
With council approval, Mike O’Shea Powerade Field at the Steve Omischl Sports Complex would be the site of football games for years to come.
O’Shea began his playing career at Widdifield Secondary School, leading the Wildcats to an NDA championship in 1988. He later starred at the University of Guelph before an illustrious CFL career split between the Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
O’Shea, a linebacker who won the CFL Outstanding Canadian award in 1999, won three Grey Cups as an Argo. After retiring as a player, O’Shea won another championship as a special teams coach with Toronto in 2012. He has served as Winnipeg’s head coach since 2014, and led the team to its first Grey Cup win since 1990 in November.
