Suspended, closed or postponed in North Bay by COVID-19:
- The Capitol Centre has decided to cancel Les McKeown’s BAY CITY ROLLERS show which was scheduled for Sunday, March 15, and will provide more information on upcoming shows next week
- Relay for Life event scheduled for this weekend at the R. J. Surtees Athletics Centre at Nipissing University
- The PADDLE Program (Providing Adults with Developmental Disabilities Lifelong Experiences) is suspended
- Nipissing University: All events on campus currently scheduled up to and including March 27 are being cancelled, postponed or offered virtually, including Open House, campus tours, Research Month events, camps, etc.
- Nipissing University: team practices and fitness classes at the R.J. Surtees Athletics Centre are cancelled
- Nipissing University and the campus buildings remain open, including facilities such as research labs, the library, the athletics centre, residences and food services
- Long term care homes are no longer accepting visitors (except for compassionate care visitors)
- Private and non-essential workers and volunteers (palliative care workers permitted) at Cassellhome
- Non-essential visits at Marina Point
- Nipissing District Soccer Club
- All Hockey Canada sanctioned leagues, including the North Bay Battalion of the OHL and Powassan Voodoos of the NOJHL
- Ringette Ontario has suspended all tournaments — Regionals were expected to take place in North Bay from March 27-29
- Little Native Hockey League tournament
- Public skating for (tots, adults, and seniors) and shinny hockey are cancelled until further notice
- North Bay’s FIRST Robotic event
- Restoule Winter Carnival
- All publicly funded schools until April 6
- Bowl for Kid’s Sake
- North Bay Museum will be delaying the start of retro game week until at least Tuesday, March 17
- Powassan Sportsplex
- Trout Creek Community Centre
- Legion Branch 453 (Powassan)
- Powassan Food Bank (by appointment only)
- The Grace House
- Lions Pancake Breakfast in Powassan is cancelled
- All 250 Clark events are cancelled
- Some events at the Powassan Library have been cancelled
Visitors have been asked to postpone visits to the North Bay Regional Health Centre if they are unwell and screening procedures are in place for patients and visitors (entry by Emergency Department doors only).
Canadore College remains open for the time being, with Canadore President George Burton saying the college is closely monitoring the situation.
“I will take our direction from the local public health unit,” he adds. “Currently, we have no plans to close any of our campuses. We will continue operating as normal but we are monitoring everything closely.”
Five Canadore employees have been sent home after attending the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) 2020 conference. From that conference came the first confirmed case of the virus in Sudbury. Burton says they are doing fine and have yet to show any symptoms. Mayor Al McDonald has also been put into self-isolation after attending the event.
Laurentian Ski Hill will reopen Saturday, March 14, and plans to be open through the March Break.
For 22 Wing, Canadian Forces Base North Bay, 22 Wing Commander, Colonel Mark LaChapelle says they are following the national guidelines.
“We’re continually making sure that we’re able to do our mission and we’re doing everything we can do to protect our families and all the members of the forces,” he stated.
