OPP: charges laid in fatal September collision

The North Bay OPP says they have laid charges in an early September collision between a bicycle and a car that took the life of 24-year-old Shelby Dickey from Grey County.

Officials say a 17-year-old from North Bay has been charged with:

  • Careless Driving Causing Death
  • Dangerous Operation Causing Death

Dickey, who was a student at Nipissing University, was riding her bike alongside Highway 63 (Trout Lake Road) near Anita Avenue and Margaret Street.

“Shelby Dickey, a student and part of our Lakers community for a number of years, passed away in a tragic cycling accident,” said university officials on Facebook at the time. “She recently completed her undergraduate degree and was to defend her Master’s thesis. Our deepest condolences go to all who knew her.”

Police say the accused will answer the charges in North Bay at a later date.
