Voodoos continue off-season signings

The Powassan Voodoos continue to fill out roster space this offseason, signing defenceman Cameron Savoie.

The St. Catharine’s native is a graduate of the Niagara North Stars U18 AAA program. The 18-year-old suited up in 32 games for the North Stars last season, notching three goals and eight assists, adding another four points in 10 playoff games.

Savoie says that he’s looking forward to joining a historically successful club.

“I’m excited to continue my hockey career with the Voodoos because of the history and how welcome I have felt,” said Savoie. “Joining the small-town community where hockey is their sport and being known that I am a leader and where young kids can look up to me. Whenever the season starts I’ll be ready.”

Savoie is coming to the area to pursue education, enrolled in the Respiratory Therapy Program at Canadore College this fall.

Chris Dawson, General Manager of the Voodoos, says that Savoie’s game should suit his team well.

“He is known for really making a good, quick first pass and I think that is something we are always looking for with our smaller rink in Powassan,” Dawson said.

The Voodoos are still waiting on direction from Hockey Canada and other governing bodies as to when the 2020-21 season will begin.
