Budget vote coming up at Council

Councillors in North Bay will be voting on the 2022 operating budget Tuesday night.

The proposed fiscal plan was given committee approval before Christmas.

Included in the budget is a levy increase of 3.99 percent, after growth.

The total budget is $133 million, excluding the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board levy of $13 million.

Deputy Mayor Tanya Vrebosch previously said the budget includes several financial requests including a matching dollar-for-dollar program involving social issues and security downtown, continuing the property tax hardship program, investing in the arts and micro-granting, a one-day mattress drop-off, Trees for Nipissing and more.

The motion council also directs staff to establish a working group to investigate the use of stop arm cameras on school buses.

Tuesday night’s regular meeting of Council is now the only meeting on the schedule after the committee meeting was cancelled.

As previously reported, there was only one item on that agenda, a staff report on growth.

A special committee meeting of Council is now slated for January 24th, however, as of Tuesday morning, the agenda has yet to be published on the city’s website.
