Snow depth around the watershed still below normal

Average snow depth in the area continues to be below normal.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority says average snow depth is up nearly 9 cm since the last readings on Jan. 13.

“Average snow depth for all sites is 35.9 cm (85.1% normal) and average water equivalence is 60.0 mm (72.1% normal),” said Angela Mills, NBMCA Water Resources Specialist. In 2021, the average snow depth for the three sites was 42.6 cm and water equivalence was 85.3 mm at this time of year last year.”

NBMCA says snow is measured for depth and water equivalence at three locations.

They include North Bay, Corbeil and Chisholm.

North Bay is the closest to average snow depth, at 94.6% normal.

It’s about 2 cm shy of the 41 cm average at the North Bay Golf and Country Club (Chippewa Creek Watershed) site.
