Former local broadcaster pens humorous collection of stories

A trip through the silly side of human behaviour.

That’s how former local broadcaster and creative director Kate Ryan’s book ‘An Unsupervised Mind’ is being described.

Originally from North Bay, Ryan returns on Saturday, Sept. 16 for a book signing at Twiggs Coffee Roasters on Fraser Street.

“I had started this book a very long time ago when I was actually on mat leave with my son, who’s now 26,” she says. “It was kind of sitting on a shelf for a very long time and I thought why not just finish it.”

Ryan says she loves people-watching and sometimes funny things that are relatable to others come to mind.

“Just by being in waiting rooms. Looking at people’s shoes. Using microwaves. If you look at anything in life there’s always something humorous to be had, so that’s where I kind of went with it,” she says.

Ryan is also working on a follow-up book.

“I’m going to call it ‘Still Unsupervised’,” she says. “This book is based on a lot of real crazy things that I have done, and that other people may have done too, but they don’t tell anybody. I’m going to tell you. It’s the funny stuff.”

Saturday’s signing takes place from 10 am to 2 pm with books available for $12 (cash only).
