Five North Bay Police Service officers promoted

Five local police officers have been promoted.

The North Bay Police Service says he officers were officially promoted on February 1st, 2024, however they will be recognized at the Awards and Promotional ceremony later in March. Officials add each one of these officers began their careers with the North Bay Police Service, and have served the citizens of North Bay proudly over many years.

Here’s what our local police service had to say about the promoted officers:

Sergeant Wall promoted, from Constable

Sergeant Darcy Wall began his career with NBPS in January of 2006. He has worked a variety of positions within the service including the Patrol section and the Criminal Investigations section.  He was designated as an Acting Detective in the Criminal Investigation Section for a period of time. Sergeant Wall has been recognized for his efforts with several Divisional Commander letters of recognition and in 2009, he was the recipient of the MADD Officer of the Year award. Sergeant Wall is currently assigned as the Patrol Sergeant of Platoon 1. He continues to be an active member of the community, where he serves on several boards and committees.

Staff Sergeant Wilson, promoted from Sergeant

Staff Sergeant Dave Wilson joined the NBPS in December 2002. He has worked in various sections throughout the Service including Patrol, Criminal Investigations and Professional Standards. He was a member of the Emergency Response Team for over ten years. As a Constable, Dave received three Divisional Commander letters of recognition as well as a Deputy Chief’s letter of recognition. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on November 20, 2020, and is now serving as the Detective Sergeant in charge of the Criminal Investigations section. Staff Sergeant Wilson is active in the community and has received many letters of thanks for his volunteer work.

Sergeant Buchanan, promoted from Constable

Sergeant Scott Buchanan commenced employment with the NBPS in December of 2004. Over the course of his career Sergeant Buchanan has worked in the Patrol section and the Criminal Investigations section, where he was the Fraud coordinator and the Cyber Crime coordinator. He also worked as the Mobile Crisis Officer prior to being promoted. As a constable, he received a Deputy Chief’s letter of recognition, Divisional Commander letter of recognition and a Chief’s Commendation. Sergeant Buchanan spent over 10 years as a member of the Emergency Response Team, and is currently the Patrol Sergeant of Platoon 2. Sergeant Buchanan continues to be an active member of the community.

Sergeant Jackson, promoted from Constable

Sergeant Stacey Jackson joined the NBPS in January of 2006. He has worked in various section of the service including Patrol and Criminal Investigations and was named Acting Sergeant of the Criminal Investigations and Patrol Sections, before being promoted. Sergeant Jackson is also the Emergency Response Team Sergeant. Over the course of his career Sergeant Jackson has received a Deputy Chief letter of recognition, a Divisional Commander letter of recognition and a Commendation from the Police Services Board. He is currently assigned to the Patrol section, where he is the Sergeant of Platoon 3. Sergeant Jackson continues to be active in the community.

Staff Sergeant Hampel, promoted from Sergeant

Staff Sergeant Richard Hampel joined the NBPS in August of 1998. He has worked in the Patrol section, the Criminal Investigations section and the Street Crime unit. He was promoted to Sergeant on December 31, 2018. As a Sergeant he worked as a Patrol Sergeant, Criminal Investigations Sergeant, and Traffic Sergeant. He was also the Sergeant for the Community Response Unit during its development. He also worked as an Acting Staff Sergeant on Patrol prior to be promoted. Staff Sergeant Hampel received the MADD officer of the year award in 2014, and is currently assigned to the Patrol section, as the Sergeant of Platoon 3. Staff Hampel Sergeant involved with his church and has coached hockey in the community over the years.
